After 4 fantastic months here in Tavelsjö, the operators of Vintercafe Kerstin and Dan, have signed a long term agreement and will stay at Sundlingska Gården. Click here for our new menu.

Having initially signed a four month contract, Kerstin and Dan had plans to operate Vintercafe as a pop-up before opening a restaurant in Umeå in the Spring.

Quickly though, the sense of community around the Tavelsjö Isbana, Tio Toppar and such close proximity to the base of Tavelsjöberget, drew the couples attention to a longer stay than initially planned.

And so, over the past few months in Tavelsjö they have been planning what Sundlingska Gården could look like when open all year round. So from the 1st June Vintercafe will become ’Root’. Whilst Root is an extension of Vintercafe, the offer will expand to include a wider menu and a focus on coffee.

A new beginning

The vision for Root is to curate the best food and drink lead experiences in the region. There will be a particular focus on the outdoors and the awesome nature in Tavelsjö.

With the Tavelsjö Isbana, Tio Toppar, Tavelsjö Leden and Runt, the area is fast becoming a hub for the outdoors. Kerstin and Dan are proud to set a long term vision to grow with the area. The initial lease will run for one year. There is an option to extend for a further 10 years if all parties are happy by December 2020.

Coffee and pizza – a marriage made in foody heaven

Throughout May Sundlingska Gården will see some minor refurbishment works to upgrade the customer facing areas. They will also make some investment in the back of house areas. Root will then launch on 3rd of June and will be open 5 days a week (Weds-Sun), 9-19. Then, from the 15th of June, Root will move 7 days week for the summer, 9-19.
